Steak with Mushroom Sauce & Creamy Mashed Potatoes: A Perfect Comfort Meal

Boil the Potatoes: Place the cubed potatoes in a large pot and cover them with water. Add a pinch of salt and bring to a boil. Let them cook for about 15-20 minutes or until fork-tender.
Mash the Potatoes: Drain the potatoes and return them to the pot. Add the butter, milk, and sour cream. Mash until smooth and creamy. Adjust the consistency by adding more milk if needed. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Set aside and keep warm.
Step 2: Cook the Steak

Season the Steaks: Pat the steaks dry with a paper towel. Season both sides generously with salt and pepper.
Cook the Steaks: Heat olive oil and 1 tablespoon of butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once the butter is melted and sizzling, add the steaks to the skillet. Cook for about 4-5 minutes per side for medium-rare, or longer if you prefer your steak cooked more. Remove the steaks from the skillet and let them rest on a plate.
Step 3: Make the Mushroom Sauce

Sauté the Mushrooms: In the same skillet, melt 2 tablespoons of butter over medium heat. Add the sliced mushrooms and cook, stirring occasionally, until they release their moisture and become golden brown, about 5-7 minutes.
Add Garlic: Stir in the minced garlic and cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
Deglaze the Pan: Add the beef broth, soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, and Dijon mustard. Stir to combine, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the skillet.
Simmer the Sauce: Allow the sauce to simmer for 3-4 minutes, or until it thickens slightly. Stir in the heavy cream and thyme, and cook for another 2 minutes. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
Step 4: Serve the Meal

Plate the Dish: Place a generous scoop of mashed potatoes on each plate. Top with a steak and spoon the mushroom sauce over the steak.
Serve and Enjoy: Garnish with fresh herbs like parsley or thyme, if desired, and serve immediately.
