In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, seasoned breadcrumbs, brown mustard, ketchup, powdered beef base (or crumbled beef bouillon cubes), Worcestershire sauce, salt, and black pepper. Mix thoroughly with your hands or a spoon until all ingredients are well incorporated.
Form the Meatballs:
Shape the mixture into meatballs, about 1 to 1 1/2 inches in diameter, and place them on a plate or tray as you go.
Cook the Meatballs:
In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Once melted, carefully place the meatballs in the skillet. Cook the meatballs in batches if necessary to avoid overcrowding the pan.
Brown the meatballs on all sides, about 8-10 minutes. Once browned, remove them from the skillet and set them aside.
Make the Gravy:
In the same skillet, add a bit more butter if needed, and scrape up the flavorful browned bits from the bottom of the pan.
To make the gravy, you can add a little water, beef broth, or even a touch of the Worcestershire sauce to create a rich sauce. If you prefer a thicker gravy, you can stir in a bit of flour or cornstarch to thicken it.
Return the Meatballs:
Return the meatballs to the skillet and let them simmer in the gravy for 10-15 minutes until they are cooked through and have absorbed the savory flavors.
Serve:
Serve your Salisbury Steak Meatballs with mashed potatoes, steamed veggies, or your favorite side dish. The meatballs and gravy are sure to be a hit!
