In a large bowl, combine the finely shredded cabbage, egg, flour, grated cheese (if using), chopped onion, minced garlic, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Stir everything together until well combined. The mixture should be thick enough to hold together, but not too dry.
Form the Patties:
Take small portions of the mixture and shape them into patties. You can make them small and bite-sized or larger, depending on your preference.
Fry the Patties:
Heat a few tablespoons of olive oil or vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Once the oil is hot, carefully place the patties in the skillet. Fry for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy.
Drain and Serve:
Remove the patties from the skillet and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauce or a side of veggies.
