Prepare the Patties: In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, diced onion, garlic powder, salt, black pepper, and Worcestershire sauce. Mix until well combined.
Shape the mixture into 4-6 patties, depending on your preferred size.
Cook the Patties: Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add the patties. Cook for 4-5 minutes per side until they are browned and cooked through. Remove the patties from the skillet and set aside.
Make the Onion Gravy: In the same skillet, add butter and sliced onion. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the onion becomes soft and caramelized, about 8 minutes. Stir in flour and cook for 1-2 minutes to form a roux.
Slowly add beef broth, stirring constantly to avoid lumps. Add Worcestershire sauce and dried thyme (if using). Bring the gravy to a simmer and cook for about 5-7 minutes, until thickened.
Season with salt and pepper to taste.
Combine and Serve: Return the cooked patties to the skillet and spoon the onion gravy over them. Let the patties simmer in the gravy for another 5 minutes to soak up the flavors.
Serve hot, garnished with extra onions or fresh parsley if desired.
