Heat a large skillet or pot over medium heat. Add the ground beef or turkey, breaking it up with a spoon as it cooks. Cook until browned and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes.
Once the meat is browned, drain any excess fat if needed, then add the minced garlic and diced onions. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until the onions soften.
Prepare the Sauce:
Add the water, beef broth, and olive oil to the skillet with the meat. Stir in salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning (if using).
Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat.
Add the Pasta:
Stir in the uncooked elbow macaroni (or your choice of pasta), ensuring it’s evenly distributed in the sauce.
Cover the pot, reduce heat to low, and let it simmer for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the pasta is cooked and the sauce has thickened.
Optional Add-ins:
If you’re using diced tomatoes, add them in at this point for extra flavor and richness. Stir to combine.
Serve:
Once the pasta is tender and the sauce is thick, taste and adjust seasoning if necessary. If you like, top with shredded cheddar cheese for added flavor and serve hot.
