How to Clean and Disinfect Your Mattress Naturally

Remove all sheets, pillows, and mattress protectors. Wash bedding in hot water to kill dust mites and bacteria.

2. Vacuum the Mattress
Use the upholstery attachment to thoroughly vacuum the entire surface—top, sides, and seams—to remove dirt, dust, and allergens.

3. Spot Clean Stains
Mix equal parts white vinegar and water in a spray bottle. Lightly spray stained areas and blot with a clean cloth. Don’t soak the mattress. Let air dry completely.

4. Deodorize with Baking Soda
Sprinkle a generous layer of baking soda all over the mattress using a strainer. Optional: Add a few drops of essential oil to the baking soda before sprinkling for a fresh scent.

Let it sit for at least 4 hours—or overnight for deeper odors and moisture absorption.

5. Vacuum Again
Thoroughly vacuum up all the baking soda to lift away odors and any loosened dirt.

6. Air Out the Mattress
If possible, let the mattress sit in sunlight for a few hours. UV rays naturally kill bacteria and dust mites.
