In a large mixing bowl, stir together warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until the surface becomes foamy—this means your yeast is alive and ready.
Form the Dough:
Add in salt, flour, and olive oil. Mix until a dough forms, then knead lightly in the bowl or on a floured surface for about 5–7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
First Rise:
Cover the bowl with a damp cloth or plastic wrap. Place in a warm area and let the dough rise for 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.
Shape and Second Rise:
Gently deflate the dough, shape it into a loaf, and place it in a greased 9×5 loaf pan. Let it rest for 15–20 minutes while the oven preheats.
Bake:
Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 30–35 minutes. The crust should be golden brown, and the loaf should sound hollow when tapped.
Cool:
Let the bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.
