In a small bowl, warm the milk until it’s slightly warm to the touch (about 110°F or 43°C). Stir in the sugar and yeast, then let it sit for 5-10 minutes until the yeast becomes frothy and bubbly.
Make the Dough:
In a large bowl, combine the flour and salt. Add the egg, softened butter, and the yeast mixture into the flour. Mix until a sticky dough forms.
Knead the Dough:
Transfer the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead it for 5-7 minutes, or until it becomes smooth and elastic. If the dough is too sticky, sprinkle a little more flour, but be careful not to add too much.
Let the Dough Rise:
Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl and cover it with a damp cloth. Let it rise in a warm spot for 1-1.5 hours, or until it has doubled in size.
Shape the Buns:
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 8-10 equal portions. Roll each portion into a smooth ball and place them on a greased or parchment-lined baking sheet, leaving a little space between each one.
Second Rise:
Cover the buns with a cloth and let them rise for another 30 minutes, until they puff up and become fluffy.
Bake:
Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F). Bake the buns for 15-20 minutes, or until they are golden brown on top.
Serve and Enjoy:
Let the buns cool slightly on a wire rack before serving. These buns are perfect for making sandwiches or enjoying with a dollop of butter.
