Mix the Dry Ingredients:
In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, salt, and baking powder.
Cream the Butter and Sugar:
In a large bowl, beat together the softened butter and granulated sugar using a hand mixer or stand mixer on medium speed until light and fluffy (about 3-4 minutes).
Add the Eggs and Vanilla:
Beat in the eggs one at a time, ensuring each is fully incorporated before adding the next.
Stir in the vanilla extract.
Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients:
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with the milk (if using), starting and ending with the flour mixture. Mix until just combined, being careful not to overmix.
Bake:
Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top.
Bake for 50-60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
