Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
Make the Alfredo sauce: In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Add garlic and sauté for about 1 minute. Whisk in flour and cook for another minute until lightly golden.
Slowly whisk in milk and cream, stirring constantly until the mixture thickens (about 5–7 minutes).
Stir in Parmesan cheese, half of the mozzarella, salt, pepper, and optional nutmeg. Remove from heat when the sauce is smooth and creamy.
In a large bowl, combine cooked pasta, chicken, and broccoli. Pour the Alfredo sauce over and mix until everything is well coated.
Transfer the mixture into the prepared baking dish. Top with the remaining mozzarella cheese. If using the breadcrumb topping, sprinkle it evenly over the top.
Bake uncovered for 20–25 minutes, or until bubbly and golden on top.
Let it rest for 5 minutes before serving.
