Classic Fluffy Homemade Donuts: A Sweet Morning Treat

In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, salt, and nutmeg until well combined.

Add Wet Ingredients:
In a separate bowl, beat the egg and mix it with the milk. Gradually pour the wet ingredients into the dry mixture and stir until a dough begins to form.

Knead the Dough:
Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5–7 minutes until smooth and elastic. If it’s sticky, add a little extra flour as needed.

First Rise:
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp towel, and let it rise in a warm area for 1 to 1.5 hours or until doubled in size.

Shape the Donuts:
Roll out the dough to about 1/2-inch thickness. Use a donut cutter or two round cutters to shape the donuts and holes.

Second Rise:
Place the cut donuts on a parchment-lined tray, cover, and let rise for another 30–40 minutes.

Fry the Donuts:
Heat oil in a deep pan to 350°F (175°C). Fry the donuts in batches, flipping once, until golden brown on both sides (about 1–2 minutes per side). Drain on paper towels.

Finish:
While warm, coat with sugar or dip in your favorite glaze.
