Classic Cabbage Rolls

In a skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat.
Add the finely chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes.
Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
2. Prepare the Filling
In a large bowl, combine the cooked vegetables with the ground beef (or turkey), cooked rice, oregano, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined.
3. Soften the Cabbage Leaves
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Carefully blanch the cabbage leaves for about 2 minutes until they are soft and pliable.
Remove and drain the leaves.
4. Assemble the Rolls
Place about 1/4 cup of the meat mixture in the center of each cabbage leaf.
Fold in the sides and roll tightly from the stem end to the tip. Secure with a toothpick if necessary.
5. Prepare the Sauce
In a separate bowl, mix together the tomato sauce, lemon juice, and sugar.
Spread half of the sauce in the bottom of a baking dish.
6. Bake the Rolls
Arrange the cabbage rolls seam-side down in the dish.
Pour the remaining sauce over the top.
Cover with foil and bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 1 hour, or until the rolls are cooked through.
7. Serve
Let the cabbage rolls sit for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy your nutritious and delicious meal!
