Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, milk, egg, chopped onion, garlic powder, oregano, and salt and pepper. Mix until well combined.
Form the Meatloaf:
Transfer the meat mixture into a greased loaf pan. Create a well in the center of the meat mixture, making a space to add the shredded cheddar cheese. Fill the well with the cheese and carefully seal the sides of the meatloaf, enclosing the cheese inside.
Prepare the Tomato Sauce Topping:
In a small bowl, mix together the ketchup, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, and mustard (if using). Stir until smooth.
Bake the Meatloaf:
Spread the tomato sauce mixture evenly over the top of the meatloaf. Bake in the preheated oven for about 50-60 minutes, or until the meatloaf reaches an internal temperature of 160°F (71°C).
Serve:
Once done, remove the meatloaf from the oven and let it rest for about 10 minutes before slicing. Serve with extra tomato sauce if desired.
