Preheat the oven to 450°F (230°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with the 2 tablespoons of melted butter.
Make the Biscuit Dough:
In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
In a separate bowl, whisk together the buttermilk and heavy cream. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. The dough will be slightly sticky.
Shape the Biscuits:
Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Gently knead the dough a few times until it comes together. Pat the dough into a rectangle about 1-inch thick.
Using a biscuit cutter or a drinking glass, cut out biscuits from the dough. Place them in the greased baking dish, close together to help them rise.
Add the Butter:
Pour the melted butter evenly over the top of the biscuits. This will give the biscuits their signature buttery crust and a rich flavor.
Bake the Biscuits:
Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the biscuits are golden brown and puffed up.
Remove from the oven and let them cool for a few minutes before serving.
Serve:
Serve warm with butter, jam, or honey. These biscuits are perfect for dipping into gravy or enjoying with a hearty stew.
