Butter Cookies: A Melt-in-Your-Mouth Classic

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone baking mats to prevent sticking.
Cream the Butter and Sugar:

In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter and granulated sugar together until the mixture is smooth and creamy. This process should take about 2-3 minutes with an electric mixer.
Add Vanilla:

Stir in the vanilla extract and mix until fully combined.
Incorporate Dry Ingredients:

Gradually add the all-purpose flour and salt, mixing until just combined. Avoid overworking the dough to keep the cookies tender.
Shape the Cookies:

Roll the dough into small balls, about 1 inch in diameter, and place them on the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart. If you like, you can flatten the balls slightly with a fork or your hands for a more traditional cookie shape.
If desired, sprinkle the tops of the cookies with colored sugar, chocolate chips, or chopped nuts for added flavor and decoration.
Bake the Cookies:

Bake the cookies in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden. The center should still appear soft but set.
Cool and Serve:

Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
