Introduction
Did you know that some of your kitchen scraps can be transformed into a thriving vegetable garden? Regrowing veggies from scraps is not only an easy and cost-effective way to enjoy fresh produce, but it also reduces food waste and promotes sustainability. Whether you have a backyard garden or just a sunny windowsill, here’s how to regrow some of your favorite vegetables at home.
Vegetables You Can Regrow from Scraps
1. Green Onions
Place the white root end in a small glass of water.
Keep in a sunny spot and change the water every few days.
In about a week, the green tops will start regrowing—snip as needed!
2. Lettuce, Bok Choy, and Cabbage
Submerge the base of the leaves in shallow water.
Keep in sunlight and refresh the water daily.
Once roots and new leaves appear, transplant them into soil for continuous growth.
3. Celery
Cut off the base and place it in a dish with water, cut side up.
After roots and new leaves form, plant it in soil for a fresh celery stalk.
4. Carrot Tops
