Cut the top off the round loaf of bread and scoop out the inside, leaving about 1-inch of bread on the edges to form the bowl. Save the bread scraps for dipping or crumbling into breadcrumbs.
Brush the outside of the bread bowl with olive oil and place it on a baking sheet.
Bake the bread for about 10-15 minutes, or until it’s lightly toasted and crispy. Remove from the oven and set aside.
Step 2: Prepare the Seafood Filling
In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the chopped onion, garlic, celery, and bell pepper (if using), and sauté until softened, about 5 minutes.
Add the shrimp and crab meat to the skillet, cooking until the shrimp turn pink and opaque (about 3-4 minutes).
Lower the heat and add the heavy cream, cream cheese, mozzarella, Parmesan, parsley, lemon juice, salt, and pepper. Stir until the cheeses melt and the mixture is smooth and creamy.
For a little extra flavor, add a pinch of cayenne pepper or paprika to the filling for a bit of spice.
Remove from heat and let the filling cool slightly.
Step 3: Stuff the Bread Bowl
Carefully spoon the seafood mixture into the prepared bread bowl, packing it in tightly.
Top with a bit more shredded mozzarella or Parmesan cheese for a cheesy finish.
Place the stuffed bread bowl back into the oven and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the filling is bubbly and golden on top.
Step 4: Serve
Once the seafood bread bowl is baked, remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
Slice the bread scraps or use a knife to cut into wedges for dipping into the creamy seafood filling.
