Pumpkin Pecan Delight Trifles: A Fall-Inspired Dessert with Layers of Flavor

Bake the cake according to the instructions on the cake mix box (or use your favorite homemade cake recipe). Once baked, allow the cake to cool completely. After cooling, cut the cake into small cubes or tear it into bite-sized pieces.

Toast the Pecans:
While the cake cools, toast the pecans by placing them in a dry skillet over medium heat for 3-5 minutes, stirring frequently, until they’re fragrant and lightly browned. Remove from the skillet and set aside.

Make the Pumpkin Layer:
In a medium-sized bowl, combine the pumpkin puree, softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Use a hand mixer or whisk to blend the ingredients until smooth and creamy. Gently fold in the whipped topping or heavy cream until the mixture is light and fluffy.

Make the Pecan Caramel Sauce (optional):
In a small saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the brown sugar and cook for 2-3 minutes, until the sugar is dissolved and the mixture is smooth. Add the heavy cream and continue to cook for another 1-2 minutes, stirring constantly. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract and chopped toasted pecans. Let the sauce cool to room temperature before using.

Assemble the Trifles:
In individual trifle glasses or dessert cups, layer the ingredients starting with a spoonful of cake cubes. Follow with a layer of pumpkin mixture, then sprinkle some toasted pecans on top. Repeat the layers until the glasses are filled, finishing with a generous dollop of pumpkin filling and a sprinkle of chopped pecans.

Serve:
If using the pecan caramel sauce, drizzle a little over the top of each trifle just before serving. Garnish with additional whipped topping, toasted pecans, or a dusting of cinnamon for a festive touch. Serve chilled.
