Perfect Homemade Pizza Recipe


In a small bowl, dissolve sugar and yeast in warm water. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes, or until it becomes frothy.

In a large bowl, mix the flour and salt. Create a well in the center and pour in the yeast mixture and olive oil.

Mix until the dough begins to come together. Then, knead on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes, or until the dough is smooth and elastic.

Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise for 1-1.5 hours, or until it has doubled in size.

2. Prepare the Sauce:
In a saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.

Add the crushed tomatoes, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Stir and let the sauce simmer on low heat for 15-20 minutes to thicken and develop flavor.

3. Assemble the Pizza:
Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C) and place a pizza stone or baking sheet inside to heat up.

Punch down the dough and divide it into two equal portions if you want to make two smaller pizzas. Roll each portion into a circle on a floured surface.

Transfer the dough to a parchment paper-lined pizza peel or a baking sheet. Stretch the dough out to your desired thickness.

Spread a thin layer of the prepared pizza sauce over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges.

Sprinkle a generous amount of shredded mozzarella cheese over the sauce, and then add your favorite toppings.

4. Bake:
Carefully slide the pizza (with the parchment paper) onto the preheated stone or baking sheet in the oven.

Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is bubbly and melted.

5. Serve:
Remove the pizza from the oven and let it cool for a minute or two. Add fresh basil leaves on top, drizzle with a little olive oil, and slice it up!

Serve with a side salad or enjoy it as-is.
