Old-Fashioned Chocolate Fudge: A Sweet Nostalgic Treat

Prepare the Pan: Line an 8×8-inch square baking pan with parchment paper or lightly grease it to prevent the fudge from sticking.

Melt the Base: In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine the granulated sugar, butter, and milk. Stir continuously as the mixture begins to melt and combine. Bring the mixture to a gentle boil, allowing it to boil for 4-5 minutes, stirring constantly to avoid burning.

Add the Chocolate Chips: Remove the saucepan from the heat and add the semisweet chocolate chips to the hot mixture. Stir until the chocolate chips have completely melted and the fudge is smooth.

Add Vanilla and Nuts (Optional): Stir in the vanilla extract for flavor. If you’re using nuts, fold them into the fudge mixture now.

Set the Fudge: Pour the fudge mixture into the prepared baking pan. Smooth the top with a spatula, then refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or until the fudge is fully set and firm.

Cut and Serve: Once the fudge has set, remove it from the pan using the parchment paper and cut it into small squares. Serve and enjoy!
