Nestlé Toll House Magic: The Chocolate Cake That Wins Hearts

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13-inch baking pan or two 8-inch round cake pans.

Mix dry ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.

Blend wet ingredients: In another bowl, beat the eggs, sugars, buttermilk, oil, and vanilla until smooth and creamy.

Combine the wet and dry ingredients. Slowly stir in the hot water (it will thin the batter—this is normal). Fold in the chocolate chips.

Bake for 35–40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Let it cool completely before frosting.

For the frosting: Melt butter, stir in cocoa, then alternately add powdered sugar and milk, beating to a spreadable consistency. Stir in vanilla.

Frost the cake and add extra chocolate chips or shavings if desired.
