In a large skillet, heat a small amount of oil over medium heat.
Add the ground beef and chopped onion, cooking until the beef is browned and the onion is soft.
Drain any excess fat from the pan.
Stir in the marinara sauce and the Italian seasoning mix. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Let the sauce simmer on low heat while you prepare the rest of the ingredients.
Step 2: Prepare the Cheese Mixture
In a separate bowl, mix together the ricotta cheese, 1 1/2 cups of shredded mozzarella, Parmesan cheese, and the beaten egg.
Stir in the fresh basil if using, and season with a pinch of salt and pepper.
Step 3: Assemble the Lasagna
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
In a greased 9×13-inch baking dish, spread a thin layer of the meat sauce on the bottom.
Add a layer of cooked lasagna noodles over the sauce.
Spread one-third of the ricotta cheese mixture over the noodles.
Add another layer of meat sauce and continue layering with noodles, cheese mixture, and sauce until you run out of ingredients.
For the top layer, sprinkle the remaining mozzarella cheese over the final layer of meat sauce.
Step 4: Bake the Lasagna
Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil, making sure it doesn’t touch the cheese.
Bake for 25-30 minutes.
Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the top is bubbly and golden brown.
Let the lasagna cool for about 10 minutes before slicing.
Step 5: Serve and Enjoy
Garnish with extra fresh basil if desired.
Serve with a side salad and garlic bread for a complete meal.
