How to Properly Store Honey, Before and After Opening a Jar

Always make sure the lid of the jar is tightly closed to prevent moisture from getting in, as excess moisture can lead to fermentation.

Store at Room Temperature:
Honey doesn’t need to be refrigerated. In fact, refrigeration can cause it to crystallize more quickly. It is best to keep it at room temperature, around 70°F (21°C).

Avoid Contamination:
Use a clean utensil, such as a spoon or honey dipper, to scoop out the honey to avoid contaminating the jar with bacteria or other substances.

What About Crystallization?
Crystallization is a natural process where honey turns solid. If this happens, you can gently warm the jar in hot water (just be careful not to overheat it, as this can affect the flavor). Simply place the jar in a bowl of warm water for a few minutes, and the honey will return to its liquid state.

How Long Does Honey Last?
When stored properly, honey can last indefinitely. Its natural sugars and low moisture content act as preservatives, making it one of the few foods that doesn’t spoil over time.

By following these simple steps, you can enjoy your honey at its best quality, whether it’s unopened or already in use!
