Homemade Hamburger Buns: Soft, Fluffy, and Perfect for Every Burger

In a small bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Stir to dissolve and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes, until the mixture is frothy and bubbly.
Mix the Dough:

In a large mixing bowl, combine 3 cups of flour and salt. Create a well in the center and add the yeast mixture, melted butter, milk, and egg. Stir with a wooden spoon or spatula until the dough begins to come together.
Knead the Dough:

Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes, or until the dough becomes smooth and elastic. Add a little flour if the dough is too sticky, but be careful not to add too much.
First Rise:

Form the dough into a ball and place it in a lightly oiled bowl. Cover the bowl with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 to 1.5 hours, or until it doubles in size.
Shape the Buns:

Once the dough has risen, punch it down to release the air. Divide the dough into 8 equal pieces (or more for smaller buns). Roll each piece into a smooth ball and flatten slightly to form a bun shape. Place the shaped buns onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, leaving space between each one.
Second Rise:

Cover the buns with a towel and let them rise for another 30-45 minutes, or until they puff up.
Bake the Buns:

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Brush the tops of the buns with the melted butter and sprinkle with sesame seeds or poppy seeds if desired. Bake for 15-18 minutes, or until the buns are golden brown.
Cool and Serve:

Let the buns cool on a wire rack for a few minutes before slicing and serving with your favorite burger patty.
