Homemade Butter Biscuits: Soft, Fluffy, and Perfectly Golden

Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it to prevent sticking.
2. Prepare the Dry Ingredients:

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar (if using). Make sure the dry ingredients are well combined.
3. Cut in the Butter:

Add the cold, cubed butter to the dry ingredients. Use a pastry cutter, two forks, or your fingertips to cut the butter into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs with pea-sized pieces of butter.
4. Add the Milk:

Pour in the milk and gently stir with a spoon or spatula until the dough begins to come together. Be careful not to overmix, as this can make the biscuits tough.
5. Roll and Shape the Dough:

Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Gently knead it a few times to bring it together, then pat the dough out to about 1-inch thickness. Use a biscuit cutter or a drinking glass to cut out biscuits. Place the biscuits on the prepared baking sheet, making sure they’re close together for soft sides or spaced apart for crispier edges.
6. Bake the Biscuits:

Brush the tops of the biscuits with a little extra milk for a golden finish. Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the biscuits are golden brown on top.
7. Serve and Enjoy:

Remove the biscuits from the oven and let them cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy them warm with butter, honey, or your favorite topping.
