Orchids are beautiful, but they can be a bit tricky to care for. If your orchid is dying, there may be a few reasons behind it. Here are the common causes:
1. Overwatering
Orchids are sensitive to overwatering. Too much water can lead to root rot, which prevents the plant from absorbing nutrients properly. Make sure the pot has proper drainage, and allow the soil to dry out between waterings. Watering once a week is generally sufficient.
2. Underwatering
While overwatering is common, underwatering can also stress your orchid. If the plant is left too dry for too long, it will start to wilt and show signs of dehydration. Ensure you’re watering enough, but not too much.
3. Poor Lighting
Orchids need bright, indirect light to thrive. Too much direct sunlight can scorch their leaves, while too little light can cause poor growth and a lack of blooms. Place your orchid near a window where it can get filtered sunlight.
4. Temperature Extremes
