Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
Prepare the Cookie Dough:
In a large bowl, beat together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until the mixture is light and fluffy. Add in the vanilla extract and eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
Mix Dry Ingredients:
In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined.
Add Chocolate Chips:
Stir in the semi-sweet chocolate chips until evenly distributed throughout the dough.
Shape the Cookies:
To make heart-shaped cookies, roll out small portions of dough and use a heart-shaped cookie cutter. Place the shaped dough onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart. If you don’t have a heart-shaped cutter, you can roll the dough into balls and gently press them into a heart shape with your hands.
Optional Decoration:
If desired, sprinkle some colored sugar or sprinkles on top of the cookies for extra flair and sweetness.
Bake the Cookies:
Bake the cookies in the preheated oven for 9-11 minutes or until the edges are golden brown but the centers are still soft. Keep a close eye on them to avoid over-baking.
Cool and Serve:
Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely. Once cooled, they’re ready to be enjoyed!
