Golden Funnel Cake Fries: A Fun Twist on a Fair Favorite

In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon (if using). In a separate bowl, beat the egg and then add the vanilla extract and milk. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until smooth. The batter should be thick but pourable.

Heat the Oil:
In a large, deep skillet or frying pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat. The oil should be deep enough to submerge the fries. You can test if the oil is ready by dropping a small amount of batter into the oil; it should sizzle and rise to the surface.

Shape the Fries:
Once the oil is hot, use a piping bag or a plastic sandwich bag with the tip cut off to pipe the batter into the hot oil. Start by making long, straight strips of batter, as long as the skillet will allow. You can also pipe small wavy patterns or crisscross shapes for a fun variation. Fry in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the pan.

Fry the Funnel Cake Fries:
Fry the batter strips for about 2-3 minutes on each side or until golden brown and crispy. Once fried, use tongs or a slotted spoon to transfer the fries to a paper towel-lined plate to drain any excess oil.

Dust with Powdered Sugar:
While the funnel cake fries are still warm, dust them generously with powdered sugar. You can also sprinkle them with a little cinnamon sugar for extra sweetness if desired.

Serve the Golden Funnel Cake Fries immediately while they’re still warm and crispy. For a fun treat, offer dipping sauces such as chocolate syrup, strawberry sauce, or caramel sauce on the side.
