Mix Wet Ingredients: Add the egg and vanilla flavor. Stir until the ingredients are combined.
Form the Dough: Make a well in the center of the mixture and gradually add the water. Mix to form a dough.
Knead the Dough: Transfer the dough to a clean surface. Gradually knead in the butter and continue kneading for 20-25 minutes, until the dough is smooth and stretchy.
Let it Rise: Form the dough into a ball, place it in a bowl, and cover. Allow the dough to rise for about 20 minutes, or until it doubles in size.
Shape the Doughnuts: Punch the dough down and start forming your dough balls. You can use a scale for equal-sized portions (about 80g each).
Second Rise: Place each dough ball on a separate piece of paper or flour. Allow them to rise again, until doubled in size.
Heat the Oil: Heat the oil in a frying pan until it is hot enough to cook the dough. You should see small bubbles forming when the dough is placed in the oil, not large ones.
Fry the Doughnuts: Using the paper, carefully drop the dough into the hot oil. Flip once the doughnuts are golden brown on one side. Fry until both sides are golden.
Drain Excess Oil: Remove the doughnuts from the oil and place them on kitchen towels to remove any excess oil. Let them cool before serving.
