In a small bowl, mix the warm water, yeast, and sugar. Stir gently and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until the mixture becomes frothy.
Mix Dry Ingredients:
In a large bowl, combine the flour and salt. Stir well to distribute the salt evenly throughout the flour.
Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients:
Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and add the activated yeast mixture, softened butter, and the egg. Mix everything together until a dough begins to form.
Knead the Dough:
On a lightly floured surface, knead the dough for about 8-10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic. If the dough is too sticky, add a little more flour, but be careful not to add too much.
Let the Dough Rise:
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours, or until it has doubled in size.
Shape and Second Rise:
Punch down the dough to release the air bubbles and shape it into a loaf. Place the dough into a greased loaf pan, cover, and let it rise for another 30 minutes.
Bake:
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the bread for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a hollow sound is heard when you tap on the bottom of the loaf.
Cool and Serve:
Let the bread cool on a wire rack for at least 10 minutes before slicing. Enjoy with butter, jam, or any of your favorite toppings.
