Begin by removing the silver skin from the ribs. This thin membrane on the back of the ribs can make them tough, so it’s important to peel it off.
Once the silver skin is removed, pat the ribs dry with paper towels.
Step 2: Season the Ribs
In a small bowl, combine the paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, chili powder, smoked paprika, cayenne, salt, and pepper.
Rub this seasoning mixture generously on both sides of the ribs, pressing it into the meat for better flavor absorption.
Step 3: Slow Cook the Ribs
Place the seasoned ribs into the Crockpot. If they’re too long, you can cut them into sections that will fit in the pot.
Pour 1/2 cup of water or broth into the bottom of the Crockpot to help steam the ribs and keep them juicy.
Cover and cook on low for 6-7 hours or on high for 3-4 hours, until the ribs are tender and the meat easily pulls away from the bone.
Step 4: Finish with Barbecue Sauce
After the ribs are cooked, carefully remove them from the Crockpot.
Preheat your grill or broiler to medium-high heat.
Brush the ribs generously with your favorite barbecue sauce on both sides.
Grill or broil for 5-10 minutes, basting with more sauce every few minutes, until the sauce is caramelized and sticky.
Step 5: Serve
Slice the ribs between the bones and serve with extra barbecue sauce on the side.
