Crock Pot French Onion Meatballs: A Savory, Flavorful Delight

In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, egg, garlic, parsley, oregano, salt, pepper, and milk. Mix until all ingredients are fully incorporated, but be careful not to overmix.
Roll the mixture into meatballs, about 1 to 1 1/2 inches in diameter. Place them on a baking sheet as you prepare them.
2. Brown the Meatballs (Optional, but recommended):

Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
Add the meatballs to the skillet and cook for 3-4 minutes on each side, until they are lightly browned. This step helps develop a rich flavor, but if you’re short on time, you can skip this step and add the raw meatballs directly to the Crock Pot.
3. Prepare the French Onion Sauce:

In the same skillet, melt butter and olive oil over medium heat.
Add the thinly sliced onions and cook for 10-12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the onions are softened and caramelized.
Add the beef broth, French onion soup, Worcestershire sauce, balsamic vinegar, thyme, salt, and pepper to the skillet. Stir to combine and bring to a simmer. Cook for an additional 3-5 minutes to meld the flavors.
4. Combine in the Crock Pot:

Transfer the meatballs to the Crock Pot.
Pour the caramelized onion sauce over the meatballs, ensuring they are evenly coated.
Cover the Crock Pot and cook on low for 4-5 hours or on high for 2-3 hours, until the meatballs are cooked through and tender.
5. Serve:

Once the meatballs are cooked, serve them hot with the French onion sauce ladled over the top.
Garnish with chopped parsley if desired and pair with mashed potatoes, rice, or crusty bread to soak up the delicious sauce.
