Apple Cinnamon Puff Pastry with Apricot Jam: A Sweet, Flaky Delight

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent the pastry from sticking.

Prepare the Apples:
Peel and thinly slice the apples. In a small bowl, toss the apple slices with the cinnamon and sugar until evenly coated. Set aside to allow the flavors to meld.

Prepare the Puff Pastry:
Roll out the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface. Use a rolling pin to smooth it into a rectangle, about 12 inches by 9 inches. Trim the edges to create a neat rectangle, if necessary.

Assemble the Pastry:
Spread the apricot jam evenly over the surface of the puff pastry, leaving about a 1-inch border around the edges. Arrange the cinnamon-sugar apple slices on top of the jam in a single layer, slightly overlapping them to cover the pastry.

Fold the Pastry:
Gently fold the edges of the puff pastry over the apples, creating a rustic border around the filling. This will keep the apples contained while they bake.

Add the Butter:
Dot the top of the apples with small pieces of butter. This will help create a golden, rich topping as the pastry bakes.

Egg Wash:
In a small bowl, whisk the egg with a tablespoon of water to make an egg wash. Brush the egg wash over the exposed edges of the puff pastry to give it a golden, shiny finish as it bakes.

Bake the Pastry:
Bake the pastry in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the puff pastry is golden brown and crispy, and the apples are tender.

Finish and Serve:
Once the pastry is done, remove it from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. Optionally, dust with powdered sugar before serving. Slice and enjoy the warm, flaky deliciousness.
