Clean the Sink: Start by removing any visible food particles, grease, or debris from the sink. Rinse it with warm water to prepare for the cleaning process.
Pour Baking Soda: Sprinkle 1/2 cup of baking soda down the drain. This helps to neutralize any odors and begin breaking down any buildup inside the pipes.
Add Vinegar: Slowly pour 1/2 cup of white vinegar into the drain on top of the baking soda. You’ll notice a fizzing reaction, which is the cleaning process in action, loosening grime and neutralizing bad smells.
Wait for 10-15 Minutes: Allow the baking soda and vinegar mixture to sit in the drain for about 10 to 15 minutes to fully work its magic.
Rinse with Boiling Water: After waiting, pour a kettle of boiling water down the drain to flush out the mixture, along with any debris that may be causing odors.
Optional Lemon Freshness: For an extra burst of freshness, you can squeeze lemon juice down the drain or place lemon wedges down the disposal if you have one. The citric acid helps to eliminate lingering smells.
