Amish-Style Hamburger Steak Bake: A Hearty Family Favorite

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter or nonstick spray.

2. Season and Cook the Beef Patties
In a bowl, season the ground beef with garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Shape the meat into 6 evenly sized patties.

Heat a large skillet over medium heat and brown the patties for 2-3 minutes per side until they develop a crust. Transfer to a plate and set aside.

3. Make the Gravy
In the same skillet, whisk 1 cup of milk with the flour until smooth. Slowly add the remaining 1 cup of milk, stirring constantly over medium heat. Cook until the gravy thickens slightly, then remove from heat.

4. Assemble the Bake
Layer half of the sliced potatoes and onions in the greased baking dish.
Place the browned hamburger patties on top.
Add the remaining potatoes and onions, then pour the gravy evenly over everything.
5. Bake the Dish
Cover the baking dish with foil and bake for 1 hour. Remove the foil, sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese on top, and bake uncovered for another 15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

6. Serve and Enjoy
Let the bake cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy this warm, cheesy, and hearty meal with a side of green beans or a fresh salad.
