Italian Granny’s Classic Lasagna

This lasagna recipe, passed down through generations, brings the authentic flavors of Italy to your table. It’s rich, comforting, and a true reflection of traditional Italian cooking. Here’s how you can make this delicious, hearty lasagna from scratch!

Ingredients
For the Meat Sauce:
1 purple onion, finely chopped

3 cloves of garlic, minced

900 g (1 lb 16 oz) ground beef

Salt, to taste

1/3 tsp chili pepper

1 tsp dried basil

1 tsp dried oregano

Black pepper, to taste

3 cans of diced tomatoes (1200 g / 3 lb)

1 cup of water

For the Bechamel Sauce:
50 g (1.8 oz) butter

2 tbsp flour

700 ml (1.5 pint) warm milk

A pinch of nutmeg

For Layering:
500 g (1 lb 2 oz) fresh mozzarella, sliced

A bunch of parsley, chopped

Lasagna sheets (enough to layer)

30 g (1 oz) parmesan, grated

125 g (4.4 oz) Edam cheese, grated
