The Bubble Wrap Trick to Reduce Cold Infiltration: Simple Ways to Keep the Chill Out

Introduction: When winter winds start creeping in through your windows, your heating bills can go up and your comfort level can go down. Fortunately, there’s an easy, affordable trick that can help reduce cold air infiltration—and all it takes is something you might already have at home: bubble wrap. This DIY insulation method is surprisingly effective and doesn’t require any tools or technical skills.

What You’ll Need:
Bubble wrap (standard or large bubble size)

A spray bottle with water

Scissors

Clean, dry windows

How to Apply the Bubble Wrap:
Clean the Window Surface:

Make sure your window is free of dust and grease. A quick wipe with a damp cloth will do.

Cut the Bubble Wrap:

Use scissors to cut bubble wrap to the size of your windowpane. You can measure each section or simply press the wrap against the window and trim to fit.

Spray Water on the Glass:

Fill a spray bottle with clean water and lightly mist the window glass. This helps the bubble wrap stick without needing tape or adhesive.
